Kursus Bahasa Inggris – Manusia memiliki lima indera perasa seperti penglihatan, pendengaran, perasa (lidah), peraba, dan penciuman. Dengan bahasa Inggris ada kata kerja untuk mengatakan gestur dari indera perasa itu yang disebutkan sense verb seperti berikut ini:
Indera Kata Kerja
Sight (penglihatan) see, look
Hearing (pendengaran) Hear, listen, sound
Taste (perasa; lidah) Taste
Touch (peraba) Feel
Smell (penciuman) Smell
Dalam menggunakan sense verb di dalam kalimat, ada beberapa hal yang perlu diperhatikan sebagai berikut:
1. Sense of verb yang telah disebutkan dalam tabel di atas dapat diikuti langsung oleh adjective atau kata sifat, dan juga bisa diikuti dengan adverb (kata keterangan).
Diikuti oleh adjective (kata sifat)
Sense of verb diikuti oleh kata sifat yaitu ketika kita akan mengungkapkan ekspresi dari indera perasa itu secara langsung dan biasanya subjek dalam kalimatnya adalah kata benda yang diobservasi oleh indera kita.
Contoh Kalimat:
The soup tastes delicious.
The song sounds great.
The flower smells good.
The dress looks beautiful.
The wood feels rough.
I feel excellent today.
She feels pain on her right foot.
They look cool.
Etc.
Diikuti oleh adverb (kata keterangan)
Sense of verb diiringi oleh kata karakter yakni saat kita akan mengutarakan gestur dari indera perasa itu dengan cara langsung serta umumnya subyek dalam kalimatnya ialah kata benda yang diamati oleh indera kita.
Contoh Kalimat:
She looks at me angrily.
They listen to the instruction carefully.
The cook tastes the soup by using spoon.
We smell rotten food here.
Keke sees a very old man at a fast food restaurant.
2. Sense verb tidak bisa dibuat bentuk progressive (V-ing). Kita dapat menggunakan bentuk lain seperti modal (can, could).
Contoh Kalimat:
I can see the beautiful scenery from the rooftop of my house.
I could listen to your soft voice.
Desi cannot taste sour fruits.
Jessi could not smell the scent since she got flu.
We can feel the hot steam in this room.
3.Tetapi, kata see serta hear dapat dibuat continuous tense, tentu saja mempunyai arti tidak sama dengan arti asli untuk sense of verb. Kata see dalam continuous form berarti ‘meet someone’ (berjumpa seorang).
Sedang kata hear dalam continuous form berarti “to listen to and judge a kasus in court” (dengarkan serta mengadili masalah di pengadilan) atau dapat juga berarti dengarkan ketetapan atau dari hasil tatap muka sah.
Contoh Kalimat:
He is seeing his mother for dinner.
The judge will be hearing the justification of the culprit today.
They were seeing their team yesterday to fix the schedule.
The director is hearing the result of managers meeting.
Many experts in education are hearing the findings of a very important research in an international conference.
4. Untuk kata sound, look, dan feel dapat dipasangkan dengan like dan kemudian diikuti dengan kata benda atau klausa.
Contoh Kalimat:
The music instrument of the Mother’s day event sounds like a dramatic play soundtrack.
My nephew looks like my brother when he was a baby.
This house reminds me to my mother and father. It feels like home a lot.
The design of dress in the boutique I visited this morning looks like mine which is made by me.
You look like a politician in that formal suit.
